BeGEOscientists (BeGEO) is an association created by young researchers in Earth Sciences with the aim of supporting initiatives that foster the promotion of culture, freedom of scientific research and the circulation of ideas within a Geosciences framework.

BeGEO stems from the need to create an extensive network among geoscientists in order to build up long-standing scientific collaborations and exchangings that allow to communicate by removing geographical distances.

About Us

Statute

The statute of the BeGEO scientists association consists of 8 articles defining its aims and rules, the methods of organization, the members admission and election criteria. 

The BeGEO scientists association supports and carries out initiatives with the aim of promoting the exchange of new ideas and projects of scientific interest in the Earth Sciences framework.  

The most important goal of the association is the creation of a network connecting young geoscientists among them and with academia and the professional world. 

All the association’s activities are non-profit. 

Regularly registered members can take part in all the association activities. 

Members are distinguished into Junior, Senior, Supporting and Founder/Founding members. 

The Junior Member category includes all those who are enrolled, at the moment of subscription, in a bachelor’s and/or master’s degree program, inherent to the fields of Earth Sciences. 

A student status certificate is required when submitting membership or renewal. 

The Senior Member category includes all PhD students, scientists, employees, freelances, etc, who have received their highest degree, i.e. BSc, MSc, or PhD, within the past seven years. 

The category of Supporting and Institutional Members includes individuals who do not fall into the previous categories, as well as institutions and companies who wish to support the activities of the association through an annual contribution. 

The Founder/Founding category includes all the members of the first and second Executive Board. The members of this category do not need to renew their membership. 

Approval by the executive board is required when applying for membership or renewal. 

Membership can be made at any time and it is valid within the related calendar year. 

The membership/renewal fees provided for the different categories, referred to in Article 2, are listed below: 

– Junior Member: 10€ 
– Senior Member: 15€ 
– Institutional Supporting Members: minimum contribution of 40€. 

Association’s members can cease to be members at their own request, or due to non-payment of the annual membership fee.

The Executive Board performs specific coordinating functions aimed at organizing the scientific congress “BeGEO scientists – Conference of young geoscientists,” held every two years, as well as cultural and outreach activities, workshops and scientific meetings. 

 

The Executive Board consists of 11 members: 

– President; 

– Vice-President; 

– Secretary; 

– Treasurer; 

– 3 Councilors, including one member of the outgoing Executive Board; 

– 4 Macro-area scientific officers

All candidates for the Executive Board must submit a cover letter within 2 months before the elections. 

Only Senior and Founder/Founding, and former board Members are eligible to apply for President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer roles. Board members cannot serve the same position twice; however, they are eligible to hold a different position. 

Both Junior and Senior Members can apply for the role of Councilor. 

Only Senior Members can apply for the role of macro-area scientific officer. The macro-area scientific officer represents the contact person within the Executive Board with regard to the issues indicated in Article 6. 

Only one officer is elected for each macroarea.

Macroarea BeGeo1: Volcanology, Environmental Geology and Geochemistry, Geochemistry, Economic Geology, Cultural Heritage, Petrography, Mineralogy, Petrology.

 

Macroarea BeGeo2: Paleontology, Paleoecology, Structural Geology, Sedimentology, Stratigraphy.

 

Macroarea BeGeo3: Applied Geology, Geotechnics, Geomorphology, Hydrogeology.

 

Macroarea BeGeo4: Geophysics, Applied Geophysics, Oceanography, Meteorology, Climatology.

1. Collaborations with External Organizations


1.1 The Association recognizes the significance of collaborating with external entities, including associations, companies, and local, regional, national and international organizations, to further its mission and activities.


1.2 Major decisions concerning collaborations with external organizations and activities involving the engagement of local, regional, national, and international entities, such as institutions, companies, and associations, shall require the participation of the following key members: the members of the Executive Committee, the entire Organizing Committee, and the founder/founding members of the Association.


2. Decision-Making Process


2.1. Decisions regarding collaborations with external entities will follow a consultative process.


2.2. The Executive Committee, in conjunction with the Organizing Committee, will evaluate and recommend collaboration opportunities that align with the Association’s goals and values.


2.3. After a formal meeting involving the Executive Committee, the entirety of the Organizing Committee, and the founder/founding members, a vote shall be conducted to approve or disapprove proposed collaborations.

Amendment Protocol for the Statute


The statute can only be amended with the majority approval of all members, including the Executive Committee, Organizing Committee members, and Founder/Founding Members

The Executive Board is renewed every two years.  

Voting for the Executive Board is attended by all members registered with the association for the current year. 

Voting takes place in a mixed mode: in-person, during the biennial BeGeo conference, and remotely via a special platform.

At least two Ordinary Meetings of Members are scheduled per year.

Conventions

The BeGEOscientists association offers educational and informative activities in the field of geosciences such as conferences, workshops, field trips, as well as recruiting activities for companies.

 

Members can enjoy benefits through the conventions that the association has already established, as well as those that will be stipulated in the coming months.

BeGeo Members can benefit from a 20% discount off the list price for participation in all training courses delivered online in live streaming mode by Terrelogiche.

The discount granted under this agreement cannot be combined with other reductions that may be provided within the training offerings of TerreLogiche srl.

Participation in the courses is subject to the availability of places or the actual activation of the specific session.

Therefore, the agreement does not give automatic right of access to the course, but enrollments are subject to approval by the Training Department of TerreLogiche srl.

How to take advantage of the discount? The BeGEO member must notify TerreLogiche that he/she wishes to take advantage of the 20% discount, when registering for the chosen course.

The discount will be applied upon presentation of the BeGEO registration form and receipt of payment.

BeGEO associates will be eligible for a 10% discount on the entire fee schedule.

 

To be eligible for the discount, the BeGEO member must notify Petrolab that they wish to take advantage of the 10% discount at the quote stage.
